Gagan Narang finishes fifth at shooting World Cup

Rai shot 558 to finish fifth while both Omkar and Prakash finished third in their elimination rounds
New Delhi: Gagan Narang reached his first final of a men’s 10m air rifle event after the London Olympics at the ISSF World Cup in Gabala, Azerbaijan, on Monday. Gagan eventually finished fifth.
Having qualified for the eight-man final, Gagan improved three positions from his eighth shooting 144.5 in the final rounds. Cao Yifei of China won the gold with a final round score of 207.4 ahead of Kim Sang Do (206.9) of Korea. Croatia’s Petar Gorsa (186.5) of Croatia bagged the gronze medal.
Former Olympic champion in the same event, Abhinav Bindra finished 14th in qualifying and failed to make it to the final.
The Indian men’s 50m pistol shooting troika of Jitu Rai, Prakash Nanjappa and Omkar Singh, looked in ominous form in their respective elimination rounds to comfortably make it to Tuesday’s qualifiers.
Rai shot 558 to finish fifth while both Omkar and Prakash finished third in their elimination rounds.
In the women’s 25m pistol event however, Indians Annu Raj Singh, Anisa Sayyed and Rahi Sarnobat struggled after the precision stage of the event.
