Plan to shift Osmania General Hospital finalised

Heritage activists and doctors associated with the OGH tried to meet Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao but were unable to do so

Hyderabad: The final plans to shift the Osmania General Hospital have been worked out. Two units — medical and surgical department — will be shifted to Petlaburj, and the orthopaedic department will be moved to King Koti Hospital.

The final plans were worked out after director of health and medical education Dr M. Ramani and OGH superintendent Dr Raghu Ram visited the two hospitals.

Dr P. Naik of the OGH Doctors’ Association said, “The operation theatres in Petlaburj are being readied. The oxygen pipes are being placed, and once that is complete the shifting will begin.”

The medical and surgical department will also require other specialties like cardiology, anaesthesia and pathology departments for which space is being created there.

Dr P. Srinivas said, “Petlaburj is 2 km from the OGH only out-patient department.” The orthopaedic department will go to the first floor of the King Koti hospital which has been emptied for OGH patients.

Another senior doctor said, “We do not want to talk about the building. For us, the priority is the safety of patients, doctors and para-medical staff. Let the government decide what it wants to do with the building.”
