RSP to name Kovoor Kunjumon for Deputy speaker

The conference will be held at C. Kesavan memorial hall here

KOLLAM: The RSP state conference that commences in Kollam on Thursday will have discussions on the deputy speaker's post in the assembly. The conference is also likely to witness at least some of the party members raising a voice against the party’s failure to bargain for the post.

The conference will be held at C. Kesavan memorial hall here. State committee and secretariat meetings will be held on the first day and delegate meetings will follow.

According to party sources, the RSP will nominate Kovoor Kunjumon MLA for the deputy speaker's post. However, the party thinks that this should have been ensured before the Aruvikkara election. The Party also foresees the upcoming local self-government elections to ensure seats in the party’s strongholds.

It is also rumoured that the Congress party that is aiming for the post has not come to a consensus because of factionalism within. The Congress has however come to a unanimous decision not to give the position to any of its allies including the RSP.

The RSP is having its first state conference after its crossover to the UDF. The RSP (B) which was with the UDF dissolved into the parent party to form a united RSP.

Meanwhile, the RSP with a national perspective is with the LDF while the party in the State is with the UDF and is likely to stick with it atleast in the near future.

The party has a 70-member state committee and will decide on its state secretary after the delegate meeting. But, as there are no opponents for A.A. Azeez MLA, he is likely to continue in the post.
