Arteria launched, city walls to be decked up by Onam

The initiative was launched at the university stadium covering about 7,000 sq ft of walls

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Tourism minister A.P. Anil Kumar on Tuesday launched Arteria, a joint venture of the tourism department and district administration that aims at beautifying the state capital with wall paintings.

The initiative was launched at the university stadium covering about 7,000 sq ft of walls.

As many as 22 artists from various parts of the state have been engaged to beautify the exterior wall of university stadium with paintings. An official associated with the project said the work would kick off on Wednesday and be completed by Onam.

As part of the scheme, walls from Kowdiar to East Fort would be painted with mural and contemporary art.

The main aim of the initiative is to make the younger generation aware of the legacy, history and growth of the state through the paintings.

District tourism promotion council (DTPC) has invited interested artists to pitch their ideas on canvas which then will be scrutinised by an appointed panel before selection.
