4.23 kg gold seized from Dubai flight at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport

The gold was ingeniously concealed inside the rear toilets of the aircraft

Hyderabad: Officials from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Monday seized gold weighing 4.232 kg from a Dubai bound Air India flight, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

The gold was ingeniously concealed inside the rear toilets of the aircraft. According to officials, gold weighing 4.232 kg was being smuggled in an Air India AI 951 flight, from Vishakapatnam to Dubai.

“The flight from Vishakapatnam arrived at the airport at around 9.30 pm on Monday. We retrieved gold that was packed and hidden behind the commodes in the rear toilets of the flight” said an official from DRI.

The value of the seized material is around Rs 1.07 crore. Officials seized the material along with the packing material under the provisions of Customs Act, 1962. The case is under investigation, added the official.
