Telangana Congress to stage stir on house dues

TPCC president said the TRS government had not constructed a single house so far

Hyderabad: The Telangana Congress has decided to stage dharnas across the state on Tuesday to protest the non-payment of dues for houses built for the weaker sections by the previous Congress regime.

Speaking at Gandhi Bhavan, TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said the TRS government had not constructed a single house so far and also did not pay the dues to lakhs of houses constructed by the Congress governments.

“Almost 4 lakh new houses have been built by the beneficiaries and are at various stages of completion but the government has not paid the instalments. All the beneficiaries are now up in arms against the TRS which had said it would arrange for the payments,” said Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy, housing minister in the Kiran Kumar Reddy Cabinet.

He said he would participate in the dharna at his Huzurnagar Assembly constituency headquarters in Nalgonda district. He said the various sub-committees constituted to take up party activities for both the GHMC elections and the Warangal Lok Sabha byelection will hold meetings from August 5 to 30.

Replying to a question he said Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s tour to Hyderabad and Warangal, expected to take place and August 21 and 22, had not been confirmed.
