District Planning Committee nod for projects worth Rs 145.33 crore

The district panchayat has set apart Rs 14 lakh for distributing farm fresh milk in the city areas

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The district planning committee has given its nod for projects worth Rs 145.33 crore for 2015-16 submitted by the district panchayat.

As many as 1,093 projects, including 231 spillover ones, were submitted to the DPC by the panchayat. District panchayat president Ansajitha Rasal said here that the panchayat had initiated a number of projects though the current council has only a couple of months left to execute them.

The district panchayat has set apart Rs 14 lakh for distributing farm fresh milk in the city areas. Ansajitha Rasal said that the plan was to distribute milk produced at the panchayat diary farms at Cettachal and Vithura jersey farms.

Mobile milk testing laboratory: The panchayat has set apart Rs 11.69 lakh to procure a mobile milk testing laboratory to test the quality of milk sold in the district. The report would be submitted to the government.

More agriculture trade centres: The panchayat is planning to tie up with Horticorp to open more centres to promote local farming. New centres would be opened at Aruvikkara, Aryankodu, Kalliyoor, Kuttichal, Perungadavila and Vellanad.

Video conferencing facility at school: In an effort to meet the shortage of teachers in schools, the panchayat is planning to introduce video conferencing facilities with the help of SIDCO. Rs 30 lakh has been earmarked for the purpose.

For road development, new constructions and maintenance of existing buildings, Rs 76.26 crore has been earmarked.
