Fact finding committee to interact with students

GUNTUR: Classes at the Acharya Nagarjuna University would resume from August 5 and the hostel would reopen on Tuesday for those who come from long distances. It may be recalled that the varsity was closed two weeks ago in the name of restoring normalcy in wake of protests over the alleged suicide of B. Arch student M. Rishiteswari.
Meanwhile, the fact finding committee appointed by state government under chairmanship of retired IAS officer Balasubrahmanyam will interact with students of ANU. Though the committee was appointed for a period of five days, its duration has been extended since the varsity had announced holidays.
The committee has interacted with the parents of Rishiteswari, varsity V-C and other officials, faculty members, hostel wardens, friends of Rishiteswari and police personnel investigating the case. Now, they will interact with other students of the varsity to get more details about ragging, political affiliations of students and other issues.
Meanwhile, ANU V-C K.S.R. Sambasiva Rao said that the varsity won't allow anyone other than the students and staff inside the campus. He informed that every student and staff of the university, including him, would get bio-metric identity card within a week and they should carry it while entering the campus. CCTVs have also been installed on the campus at every entry gate, hostel and college buildings and the campus is being monitored round-the-clock, he added.
Lokesh mourns death on Facebook:
A loss of life is unfortunate, especially when it is a young girl who has left her parents, her home in pursuit of education, read the Facebook status of Nara Lokesh, coordinator of TD Cadre Welfare Fund and son of Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu.
Two weeks after the alleged suicide incident, Mr. Lokesh reacted on his Facebook page regarding the alleged ragging and suicide of Rishiteswari, a B.Arch first year student at ANU. Mr Lokesh’s status said that “destroying her dreams in a moment of weakness by committing suicide. Whatever led to her taking the drastic step is being speedily probed by the AP Government and justice will be served without delay.”
Through his Facebook posts Mr Lokesh informed that TD chief Mr Naidu has consoled the parents and promised to pay an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh along with offering a plot in Rajahmundry.
