Hyderabad: The police on Monday arrested the soldier who allegedly tried to rape a 14-year-old girl inside the Army area in RK Puram on Saturday night. The accused was identified as T. Suresh, 30, a lance naik, police said.
Army officials handed over the accused to the police, who had earlier booked a case against him for rape bid. “The accused was drunk when he attacked the two girls and tried to rape one of them,” said Trimulgherry inspector R.S Raju.
The police is investigating if he has a criminal history. Army officials have informed the police that there will be a inquiry against him by an Army agency. The accused Suresh punched the girl causing an internal injury and beat up her younger sister when they resisted. Locals, who came to the spot hearing the screams of the girls, caught the suspect and rescued the victim. But, Army officials took him inside the camp before police arrived. After a day, he was handed over to the police.
The girl’s mother, who works as a maid at a Major’s house in the Army compound at Thimmaya Lines, had alleged that the soldier was drunk and had tried to throw the girl into the bushes after tearing her clothes and suffocating her. The accused will be remanded on Tuesday.
