Sasi Perumal kin refuse to receive his body

Two more youths climbed a mobile cell phone tower demanding compensation for Sasi Perumal’s family
KANYAKUMARI: Relatives of Sasi Perumal, who died during an anti-liquor agitation at Marthandam in Kanyakumari district on Friday, refused to receive his body until the government announced total prohibition in the state.
Two more youths climbed a mobile cell phone tower demanding compensation for Sasi Perumal’s family and implementation of prohibition. Kanyakumari District Collector Sajjansingh R. Chavan’s attempt to make Sasi Perumal’s brother Selvam and son Vivek receive the body after autopsy at the Asaripallam government
medical college hospital at Nagercoil failed. Selvam emphatically stated that he would not receive the body until the demand was fulfilled.
Sasi Peumal’s son, Vivek, who too came from Salem, echoed his uncle’s sentiments. Chavan however promised Sasi Perumal’s relatives that he would order the immediate removal of Tasmac liquor retail outlets located nearby schools, hospitals, and places of worship in Kanyakumari district.
Responding to the collector’s assurance, Vivek said, “My father fought for total prohibition in the state and not for any particular district.”
All party leaders, who staged a road blockade earlier in the morning in front of the government medical college hospital at Nagercoil demanding a fair enquiry into the death of the activist, however later tried to convince Selvam and Vivek to accept Kanyakumari district collector’s assurance. To their dismay, Selvam and Vivek refused to come down from their stand and left for Salem.
Sasi Perumal’s son to launch hunger strike
The son of anti-liquor campaigner Sasi Perumal, who fell to his death from a mobile phone tower during a protest, has declared that he would go on a fast-unto-death until all the TASMAC liquor shops are shut in Tamil Nadu.
In Gandhian Sais Perumal’s native village of Illampillai, public went on an indefinite fast demanding imposition of prohibition of sale of liquor which had ruined millions of lives and families in the state.
Saisperumal’s son Navaneethakrishnan said that he would not receive his father’s body until the Tamil Nadu government imposed prohibition rule in the state.
He said he would launch a fast-unto-death near the Salem old bus stand on Sunday morning to continue his father’s campaign against liquor.
