JS Nandhini back with a digital comic novel

Nandhini adds that there’s no guarantee that a written script will ever be made into to a film
Filmmaker JS Nandhini, whose last outing was Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru, is now excited about her digital comic novel Sivappu Kal Mookuthi. “As a storyteller, I have always been open with the medium I choose. If cinema is possible, why not comics? Most of the films that are released in Hollywood are digital-based. As a child, I have been a huge fan of comics. When I heard that there was no market for comics, I thought I should do this,” she tells us.
Nandhini adds that there’s no guarantee that a written script will ever be made into to a film. “I was working on a fantasy thriller before my first film but never completed it for a few reasons. I feel it would be really nice if the graphic novel industry and film industry go well hand in hand. There are not many contemporary Tamil graphic novels and I hope to bridge the gap between the two fields with this project, which I hope to make into a film as well in the future. Of course, graphic novels are a ‘costly venture’. It’s tough to convince artists on exactly need what I wanted. It took a year and half of hard work.” Sivappu Kal Mookuthi revolves around a couple, who go on a business trip together. “The female lead stumbles upon a shimmering red nose ring, which alters her behaviour. What happens after the rest forms the story,” Nandhini says. She also has plans of releasing Sivappu Kal Mookuthi on the iPad, Kindle, and Android based services etc. “I have registered the title in English as Girl with a Red Nose Ring. Printed editions will be limited because there’s a great cost involved in it.”
