Saven Jude Sajan remembers the day his dream came true

The President never replied to Saven’s mail or intimated the school

KOTTAYAM: It was indeed a dream come true for Saven Jude Sajan ever since he read ‘Wings of Fire’ the autobiography of the late President, APJ Abdul Kalam.

In his dreams, a meeting with Dr Kalam was a most sought quest. The meeting was always in the inner recesses of his mind after reading the book.

“The book instilled in me the craze for space, science and aircraft, and I wished to be an aeronautical engineer after reading it”, Saven told Deccan Chronicle.

Saven, a plus two student of the St Jude's global public school, Puthupally still remembers that day when the late former President of India visited his school after getting an mail from him on his personal mail id. Saven was then a standard 2 student of the school, and he wrote the letter together with his elder sister.

The President never replied to Saven’s mail or intimated the school. They only knew about it after three police vehicles reached the school compound and the police questioned him why he wrote a letter to the President and scolded him about the tension triggered by a Presidential visit.

Dr Kalam decided to reach St Jude’s school, the lone school he visited in the district, despite the fact that he had a host of other programmes to attend to.

“At the hall of the school, he addressed us and then called me by name. Though I was scared to move forward I went ahead. It was the greatest moment of my life. He asked me why I wanted to meet him. To which I said that I needed his blessings, as he was my role model. He placed his palm over my head for some time and blessed me. I can still feel his blessings after ten years”, Saven told Deccan Chronicle.
