Harsh Mayar was 11 when he essayed the role in the film 'I am Kalam'

Mumbai: On Monday night the entire country was shocked to learn about the sad demise of former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. The youth icon was in Shillong for an event at Indian Institute of Management, Shillong and collaposed on the dais.

Harsh Mayar, who played a role inspired by Dr Kalam in his film ‘I am Kalam’, shared a heartfelt post on his social media account. “If People Know Me.. Today Just Because Of This great Soul .. Thank You so much Sir for giving me Your Name "Kalam" You will always remain In Our Heart..I still Remember Once he said.."Just Chase Your Dreams My Boy" Rest in Peace ?#?Dr_APJ_Abdul_Kalam A Great Soul Left us,” he shared.

Harsh was only 11 when he essayed the role of Chhotu, a poor Rajasthani boy in the film, who was inspired by the life of the former President of India, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, and his strong desire to learn & read. Directed by Nila Madhab Panda the film, which was premiered at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival, was also showcased in various film festivals and bagged various awards and honours.

Dr Kalam was confirmed dead around two hours after being wheeled into the ICU of Bethany Hospital in critical condition after he collapsed at around 6.30 pm. Doctors at the hospital who attended him said Kalam had a cardiac arrest during the lecture and was rushed to the hospital.
