Terrorists are currently in the police station, exchanging fire with security forces

Gurdaspur: Gunmen wearing army uniform on Monday opened fire at a police station in Punjab’s Gurdaspur, killing five people. According to reports, the terrorists are currently in the police station, exchanging fire with security forces.

Here is an account of how it happened:

  • Four armed terrorists in army uniforms, first tried to get on a tempo on a major highway near a bus stand in Dinanagar around 5.30 am.
  • The tempo driver managed to escape.
  • A roadside food stall owner was reportedly killed in the firing.
  • The terrorists then opened fire on a bus heading towards the state capital of Chandigarh, leaving six passengers injured.
  • The terrorists then shot at a white Maruti 800, injuring the driver.
  • The attackers fled away in the car. They stopped at the police station in Dinanagar and opened fire, killing two cops.
  • In the exchange of fire with security forces, three patients at a hospital next door were shot.
  • The terrorists are now holed up in a part of the police station and are continuing to exchange fire with security forces.
  • Army has launched an operation against the militants numbering about five who are holed up in Dinanagar police station complex.
