Karnataka Lokayukta corruption case: Riyaz to be questioned soon

The three accused have given ‘strong’ leads about how the corruption racket took off

BENGALURU: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is likely to summon Joint Commissioner, Public Relations, Lokayukta Syed Riyazathullah for questioning on the Lokayukta corruption scandal. Riyaz has extended his leave till month end on health grounds, but according to sources, the SIT will soon question him on the scandal and his alleged involvement in it.

The three accused - Ashok Kumar, Srinivasa Gowda and Shankare Gowda, who have been arrested by the SIT and are currently in police custody, have given ‘strong’ leads about how the corruption and extortion racket took off in the Lokayukta and with whose help and blessings.

“The accused are revealing information to the investigating officer about the scam and the people involved, but their statements need to be verified,” said an official source. He added that there is evidence trickling in to prove that there was a high scale corruption racket in the Lokayukta, which was going on for some time now. “It is going to be a long drawn and laborious investigation,” the officer added.
