VIJAYAWADA: Municipal workers who are on an indefinite strike since the last two weeks staged a novel protest on Thursday. The municipal workers stood waist deep in the water of Krishna river on Thursday demanding a hike in their salaries.
The workers who have been demanding the government to increase their salaries from the past two weeks, finally resorted to this new techniques to grab the attention of the state government and get their demands fulfilled.
Meanwhile, the city continued to reel under the growing piles of garbage on its streets. Due to the ongoing strike and the tussle between the state government and the municipal workers, it is the common man who is suffering the most.
Even on Thursday, several areas in the city including Autonagar, Bhavanipuram, Wynchpet, HB Colony and many others continued to be at the receiving end of the strike.
Meanwhile, Guntur Municipal Corporation officials on Thursday took up cleaning works. Workers hired by GMC were seen removing garbage with the help of earth movers on Thursday.
