The three-minute music video Pucham gets positive reviews, goes viral on YouTube

Malayali’s contempt for everything good and bad and of what others do is well known across the globe. It is well known how they embarassed tennis player Maria Sharapova for not knowing who Sachin was by vandalising her Facebook page. Though sarcasm is in every Malayali’s blood, none of them had ever thought of doing something creative about it so far.

Until, the Idea Star Singer fame youngsters came out with a peppy music video. And it is now going viral!

It was during a trip, Vidhyashankar, Sreenath and Nikhil Raj started brainstorming for a novel topic for their music video. While, the trio were discussing, they found they were discarding ideas from others with a tinge of contempt in their comments.

That is when they unanimously decided to do something on the basic characteristic of every Malayali — contempt. Thus was born, the most-watched and discussed video by Malayalis, Pucham, malayaliyude swantham bhavam.

“It was really interesting to work for Pucham as we never used any reference or examples. It is right in our blood,” quips Sreenath, the lyricist-cum-singer of the video. With beautiful satirical lyrics, the song explains all the interesting mocking deeds Malayalis do. “We have done it taking extra care not to hurt the feeling of our fellowmen. We have something in us that prevents us from accepting something as hundred percent. Be it a successful film or an extremely remarkable achievement by someone. We can neither blame nor support having it within us,” says Vidhyashankar with a smile.

The three-minute music video, produced under the banner of Musiq Beats, Quwait of Nithin Thottathil, features comedian-cum-actor Ramesh Pisharody. Orchastration is by Anoop Kumar, music by Nihkil Raj and Sreenath and video direction by Vidhyashankar. “Ramesh Pisharody chettan was our greatest support.”

The team says that they have given more importance to the concept than the music style as they wanted to create a frisky number which can be hummed by every Tom, Dick and Harry.

Pucham has been garnering positive reviews in general and has crossed 40,000 views within a week of its launch on YouTube. However, they say that contempt would have been the first response their video too might be received!
