District authorities regulated traffic by imposing restrictions
Karimnagar: Inflow of devotees raised manifold at various pushkar ghats erected on the banks of Godavari in Karimnagar district on Wednesday, the ninth day of Godavari Pushkaralu. In order to avoid the heavy rush of pilgrims on the concluding phase of this river fete, lakhs of devotees had a dip at the ghats, resulting in traffic snarls on Karimnagar-Dharmapuri and Kataram-Manthani roads. Roughly, over 20 lakh devotees took part in the event.
Devotees belonging to far-flung areas of Telangana and its neighbouring states congregated at 36 pushkar ghats erected in 22 locations on the banks of the river in the district to take part in the holy mass bathing event from dawn. The inflow of devotees continued till 9 pm. They performed Pinda Pradanam, a ritual to be made for dead parents, and other customs before plunging in the river. Later, they thronged temples located near the venues of Pushkaralu.
Traffic came to a grinding halt on the Karimnagar-Dharmapuri and Kataram-Kaleshwaram stretches. Vehicles inched for a distance of about 20 km causing untold hardships to devotees, in particular children, elderly people and the sick. District authorities regulated traffic by imposing restrictions.
