CBI clean chit to Salim Raj in land grab case

Former land revenue commissioner T.O. Sooraj has been listed as a witness

Kochi: The CBI team probing the Kalamassery land grab case has given a clean chit to Salim Raj, former gunman of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. The chargesheet filed by the probe team in the CBI court on Wednesday does not contain the name of Salim Raj. However, two relatives of the controversial gunman-- Abdul Majeed and Abdul Salam of Pathadipalam-- have been included in it as accused.

The other accused are E. Murad, former tahsildar of Thrikkakara village, K.S. Sabu, former village officer of Thrikkakara, E.C. Geevargheese of Mulanthurthy, a clerical staff in the land revenue department, and Krishnakumari of Puthenpadam, Palarivattom additional tahsildar at the Kanayannur taluk office.

The CBI charge-sheeted the accused under IPC sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) 167 (public servants framing incorrect documents with intent to cause injury) 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) 204 (destruction of evidence) 420 (cheating) and several other sections.

The CBI stated that Abdul Majeed and Abdul Salam with the assistance of other accused public servants forged documents to grab 1.16 acres of land worth Rs 25 crore at Pathadipalam, Kalamassery, owned by the mother of A.K. Nazar, 48, Annikkattu house, Pathadipalam, Vaikom Muhammad Basheer Road, Thrikkakara. The accused misled the higher officials by submitting a false report that 1.16 acres of land owned by the complainant belonged to the government. Former land revenue commissioner T.O. Sooraj has been listed as a witness in the case.
