French experts meet stakeholders in Kochi

Workshop looked at challenges Kochi will face setting up such a network
Kochi: Experts from French agencies have held talks with stakeholders of the urban transport sector in Kochi ahead of developing a core pilot network for the urban area.
During a two-day workshop organised by Kochi Metro Rail Limited, international urban transport experts, including from CODATU, SYTRAL, KEOLIS and AFC, tried to identify the challenges Kochi will face while setting up such a network.
SYTRAL and KEOLIS have developed core pilot network for many cities in France. The workshop was part of the capacity building and technical support for urban transport development offered to KMRL by the French funding agency AFD. After a series of sessions with various stakeholders and Metro authorities, the experts will submit a report to the KMRL.
“The experts are holding talks with the stakeholders of urban transport sector like private bus operators, KSRTC authorities, autorickshaw drivers, taxi operators and State Water Transport Department. Their inputs will be used for preparing the draft proposals for core pilot network. Detailed discussions will be held on how to integrate private and KSRTC buses and boats with the Metro feeder system,” said KMRL sources.
Discussions were also held on developing a rapid bus transit system for the city which is already operational in other cities like Delhi, Jaipur, Pune and Ahmadabad.
The main bus, boat and feeder lines will be the structure of the core network which should be the basis for the development of a wider network. On the second day of the workshop, a presentation was made on the pre-operation procedures of Metro rail.
Emmanuel Kuhn, representative of KEOLIS, explained the pre-operation procedures and the preparation for the commissioning and trial run of Metro.
