Chennai: A five-year-old girl in burqa held up a placard saying, “If 9/11 deserves a moment of silence, then Palestine, Syria and Afghanistan deserve us to never speak again.”The little girl was leading a march of nearly 250 Muslims on Friday, who had gathered to show their solidarity with the state of Palestine in its war against Israel. The last Friday of the month of Ramzan is observed as International Quds (or Jerusalem) Day and rallies are organised all over the world.
The rally in Chennai that started from Thousand Lights mosque and ended at Chota Naksha Mosque at Royapettah brought together both the Shia and Sunni communities together, a rare occurrence. At the forefront was Ghulam Mohd. Mehdi Khan, Chief Shia Qazi, Government of Tamil Nadu.
“This protest march is a symbol of our support for Palestine. Israel has illegally occupied and terrorized Palestine for years now, including the recent bombardment of the Gaza strip, this has to stop.”
Not only Israel, members of the march also protested against the activities of ISIS and other terrorist groups that identified themselves as Muslims.
Present at the rally were Mohammed Asif, son of the Prince of Arcot, from the Sunni community and also a few non-Muslims like T.S.S. Mani, a social activist, apart from several Muslim scholars.
