Mission Mandya: CM Siddaramaiah to meet farmers on Sunday

Opposition Leader K.S. Eshwarappa had challenged the government
Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has directed all district-in-charge ministers in the state to compulsorily meet families of deceased farmers in their respective districts on Saturday and Sunday.
Mr Siddaramaiah himself will visit farmers’ families of Mandya district on Sunday.
This instruction was issued following a barrage of criticism from opposition parties that a majority of ministers had failed to call on the kin of farmers who had ended their lives in the last two months.
Legislative Council Opposition Leader K.S. Eshwarappa had challenged the government saying that he would retire from politics if it was true that all ministers had visited villages to console family members of deceased farmers.
In a letter to the ministers, the CM said that there has been a spurt in farmers’ suicide in the last few months. The government had taken several steps to reduce it. The need of the hour was to meet the bereaved families and console them.
All district-in-charge ministers should personally go to villages to console the bereaved families on Saturday and Sunday and also hold discussions with the officials concerned over the payment of compensation. A report should be given by each minister in this regard, Mr Siddaramaiah added.
