Chennai: Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Friday declared open projects worth Rs 676 crore completed by the fisheries and animal husbandry department. She also announced a series of schemes to promote long line Tuna fishing in the state and allocated Rs 51 crore as a subsidy for 171 fisher groups shortlisted for the government subsidy scheme.
She also dedicated three surveillance boats purchased by the fisheries department to do sorties and search for fishermen who go missing while fishing in the coastal waters of Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli districts. The state also declared open fish catch stocking centres constructed at a cost of Rs 44 crore at Dhanushkodi, Thangatchimadam, Pamban and Demaariyur.
An official release said 237 veterinary medical centres were inaugurated through video conferencing and 53 crore worth buildings including treatment centres for livestock, veterinary labs, medical college buildings and hostels in Tirunelveli and Thanjavur were inaugurated. Buildings worth Rs 244 crore constructed for the administration of fisheries, Aavin and Animal husbandry were also inaugurated.
