Hurriyat seeks practical measures to resolve Kashmir issue

Mirwaiz said Kashmir is the basic issue between India and Pakistan

Srinagar: Moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq on Friday calls for practical measures to resolve the long-standing Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes of its people.

"I ask the Prime Minister, who visited Jammu on Friday, to read the writing on the wall and accept the reality that Kashmir issue cannot be resolved through military might, violence, black laws like AFSPA and elections.

"The Indian leadership should take practical measures to resolve this issue in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of the people of Kashmir," Mirwaiz said in his address at Jamia Masjid in downtown Srinagar.

Mirwaiz said Kashmir is the basic issue between India and Pakistan and the leadership of both the countries would have to show political farsightedness and take the people of Kashmir along for resolving the issue.

"The leadership of both the countries should rise above politics on the issue of Kashmir and exhibit statesmanship, then only can a solution be found to this complex problem," he said.

The Hurriyat chairman reiterated the pledge to carry forward the ongoing struggle and asked the people to remain steadfast in pursuit of the goal.
