Feasibility study soon on alternative traffic plan in Kozhikode

Meet to be called to discuss plan with assistant commissioners

KOZHIKODE: The city police commissionerate will conduct a feasibility study on the alternate traffic plan suggested by Deccan Chronicle and try to implement the same to ease the traffic on city roads during protests at Mananchira.

City commissioner P. A. Valsan said all the assistant commissioners in the city would be called for a meeting and a feasibility study would be conducted on the suggestion before finalising an alternate traffic plan.

“We will conduct feasibility study on the route suggested by Deccan Chronicle after considering peak and non-peak hours traffic load on these roads. I will be calling a meeting of our assistant commissioners to take their view on the proposed plan and we will carry out the study,” Mr. Valsan said.

He said the city police had not thought of an alternative plan till date even after traffic snarls had paralysed city life during protests in Mananchira.

Police used to take on the spot decisions to divert vehicles while barricading Mananchira and that created confusion among motorists, making the situation worse.

“We will also inform the public regarding the traffic diversions and traffic ban on certain areas well in advance through the media. We anticipate maximum cooperation from the public to carry out our works smoothly and to ease their motoring during such protests,” he told DC.

The commissioner said the traffic diversions suggested by DC had only major roads that are equipped to handle increased traffic load.

“The plan is good that allows circular movement of vehicle. There are no traffic intersections on the proposed plan which ensures uninterrupted traffic movement,” he added.
