Consolation win for India eves in final T20 against New Zealand

The win gave Indian eves something to cheer about after having already lost the series 2-1

Bengaluru: A collective effort from the spinners gave India Women a consolation three-wicket victory against New Zealand Women in the third clash of the three-match T20I series here on Wednesday.With the series out of the their hands, India spinners Ekta Bisht (2/23), Rajeshwari Gayakwad (3/17), Poonam Yadav (2/16) spun a web to help their side record a win over the visitors in the final encounter at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Asked to bat first, the visitors were off to a flying start with skipper Suzie Bates (34) taking charge with Sophie Devine. Left-arm spinner Gayakwad dismissed Devine and later legspinner Poonam struck in successive overs to remove Satterthwaite.

New Zealand wickets tumbled in regular intervals but managed to post a decent total on the board. In reply, India eves were powered by a 19-ball 34 from Veda Krishnamurthy while V. Vanitha (28) and Anuja Patil (22) came up with some useful contributions to guide them home with six balls to spare.

New Zealand Women: 126/8 in 20 overs (S. Bates 34, R. Gayakwad 3/17) lost to India Women 128/7 in 19 overs (Veda Krishnamurthy 34, S. Devine 2/13, Leigh Kasperek 2/20) by three wickets.
