TRS gears up for GHMC elections

The focus is on interaction with all sections of the people and solving their problems, and ensuring civic amenities
Hyderabad: Though the dates for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections are not clear, city ministers and ruling TRS leaders are busy doing the ground work, backed by government schemes. Ministers T. Padma Rao and T. Srinivas Yadav have launched an indirect campaign in their Assembly constituencies without much fanfare.
The focus is on interaction with all sections of the people and solving their problems, and ensuring civic amenities. While deputy CM Mohd. Mahmood Ali is focussing on the old city, home minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy is pitching in occasionally.
The TRS is expected to have an understanding with the MIM, while the TD and BJP will tie up in the 200 divisions of GHMC. The Congress will plans to go it alone.
Though TRS president and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao appointed former MLA Mynampally Hanumantha Rao and the chief of the Greater Hyderabad unit, the party cadre is looking towards city ministers, especially Mr Padma Rao, the lone TRS MLA in Hyderabad, who has long been associated with the party and the Telangana movement.
The Chief Minister had hinted sometime back that the GHMC polls may be held in January next after the High Court directive to hold elections by December end. Mr Rao has unleashed a spate of developmental and welfare schemes for Hyderabad city including, the two-bed room housing for the poor, to holding iftar parties in all mosques and gifts to Muslims for Ramzan.
“The TRS will win the GHMC polls. Citizens are impressed by the CM’s performance during the past year, especially on the power front. For the first time there were no power cuts this summer. We have taken up several other developmental works and welfare schemes,” Mr Padma Rao told Deccan Chronicle.
