He would implement water conservative measures by linking the rivers

Rajahmundry: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday reiterated that he would implement water conservative measures by linking the rivers to ensure that the state is drought free.
Speaking at a conference attended by the irrigation officials at Anam Kala Kendram, Mr Naidu said many proposals were sent to the then Prime Minister A. B. Vajpayee and resident A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and got their nod. “A special task force also was also set up by Mr. Suresh Prabhu, who was then in-charge to link the rivers. But, unfortunately it was left midway due to lack of funds,” said Mr. Naidu.
Mr Naidu said that China had successfully linked the north and so-uth rivers and that yielded good results in lift irrigation area there. “All the agricultural lands in the twin Godavari districts can be supplied enough water, if we have a possibility to store at least 1000 TMC from 6300 TMCs, which is being released into Bay of Bengal,” Mr Naidu said.
In a tribute to the engineering expert Dr. K L Rao, Chandrababu and his ministerial colleagues praised the efforts of Rao who successfully predicted the issues that would arise relating to the irrigation in the future.
Later, the CM felicitated 30 engineers from the irrigation department for their ideas on water conservation at the Municipal Stadium. “The program was initiated to brainstorm the plans on water conservative and linkage of rivers,” said irrigation minister D. Umamaheswara Rao.
