I always dream big: Amala Paul

..says actress Amala Paul, who has turned producer with an untitled film to be directed by Priyadarshan

Actress Amala Paul is as busy as ever. The cliche, ‘on a roll’, describes her perfectly. The young actress has turned producer with her husband AL Vijay for an untitled film directed by Priyadarshan and starring Prakash Raj and Sriya Reddy. Guess what? The dusky beauty is excited about that. “I never thought I would become a producer this soon, but I always dream big.”

“It’s not by coincidence that my production company is called Think Big Studios. It is a wonderful team and the film has a strong message for the audience. We are aiming to take the film to international film festivals,” says Amala.

So how is life after marriage so far? “It’s more beautiful. Vijay has been a positive influence on me. I started focusing more on fashion and endorsements. I am having time for my family. And also, I am doing a woman-centric Malayalam film, besides Pandirajan’s Haiku,” she says.

Does it mean that we can see her more frequently in films? “In fact, post marriage I got a lot of offers from acclaimed filmmakers. Now the mentality has changed a lot. We are still desirable and I don’t believe that talent vanishes overnight after marriage. I signed up for Haiku because it is a lovely film. For the first time, I am playing a mother. The film deals with parenting, teaching kids and bringing them up,” Amala tells DC.

She explains how she became an actress by choice. “Of course, I am very choosy about my roles after marriage because of my responsibilities. I enjoy acting, especially when the characters are not the run-of-the-mill women we often see on our screens. I want to do such roles,” she says.

So, is there any possibility of Amala acting under her husband’s direction? Amala laughs, “I tell him that I will do a film with him when I am bored with other scripts and directors; but that was on a lighter note. I am a huge fan of my husband’s. I fell for ‘my director’. I would definitely be the first to grab that opportunity.”

A fashionista who enjoys dressing, Amala, attributes the entire credit to her designer-friend Pallavi Singh. “I always trouble her and make sure I get the best outfit every time. She’s my close friend. So, the ‘torture’ doesn’t count, I guess,” she jokes.

How does she maintain her physique so well after marriage? Amala says she is an avid foodie and doesn’t skip meals. “I think I am blessed that way. I really eat a lot. I neither gym nor exercise, but I dance, swim and do yoga. Since my metabolism is perfect, my hogging doesn’t show on my body,” she signs off.
