Meet Athiya Shetty, a newcomer but a star in the making in her own charming way

Sunil Shetty's little girl is all grown up and all set to make her debut with this film

Mumbai: With all the ho-ha going on about Sooraj Pancholi breaking down at the ‘Hero’ trailer launch, he almost stole the spotlight from his co-star Athiya Shetty. But not for too long. Once the event got going, Athiya shone bright in her own light.

The actress, who is the daugther of Suniel and Mana Shetty, took her first nervous but steady steps into the limelight at the launch event on Wednesday. And who better than Bollywood superstar Salman Khan to hold her hand and give her that much needed support.

'Hero', that is a remake of the 1983 film by the same name, has been directed by Nikhil Advani and produced by Salman Khan. Having an actor for a father must have rubbed off on her as we think she stole her hearts with her perfect answers, and her class act that proved she was a star, right from day one.

When asked about her parents, the young actress replied, "Ya, of course, it gives me the confidence. They are my rock, they give me strength and I am extremely happy that they are here to support me."
She also expressed her gratitude towards all the people who came out in large numbers to support her and Sooraj as they made their big Bollywood debut. On being asked about the preparation for her first big event, Athiya said that she was very nervous, but got over it. She said, "Before coming here I was extremely nervous, I messaged Nikhil sir at least 5 times saying, “Oh my God!” But he calmed me down like he always does. I am so emotional right now because it’s been such an amazing journey for both of us. We worked really hard and I hope you’ll like it. I am happy and glad to see so many people who are here to support us."

Apart from acting, Bollywood stars are expected to have a long list of talents that must include singing, dancing, gymnastics and much more. So what does Athiya bring on her plate as a performer? "I hope my USP as a performer would be that people would think I am confident and I am natural. I hope I portray that on screen," the actress said.

She was also asked if she had seen Subhash Ghai’s ‘HERO’, to which she relpied, "Yes, I saw it when I was very young but I don’t think we could ever be compared to that, on that platform. We have tried to create something new and I hope we have his blessings."

She now joins the long list of new Bollywood new comers like Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Shraddha Kapoor, Sidharth Malhotra, Kriti Sanon and many more. On being asked about her 'competition' in the industry, she said, "Competition for me, right now I think I am too new, I barely just got my wings to fly, I don’t see myself on that level yet. I hope I can get better and then I will answer your question. For now I just want to work really hard and I hope you’ll accept us."

That answer got her a huge round of applause. All newcomers wanting to know how to present yourself on your big day, here's how you do it. Way to go Athiya...
