The party launched a programme to train party workers

Chennai: In an effort to reach out to the net savvy and those active on social media, the Tamil Nadu unit of BJP has launched a programme to train party workers to flex this as a potent tool to campaign during next year’s Assembly election. The party’s national secretary P. Muralidhar Rao, who inaugurated a seminar for party workers on Sunday in the presence of state president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan here, said party cadres would utilise social media to stay in touch with people, especially the youth, as part of preparations for the Assembly elections due in April-May next year.

“We have initiated efforts to unite the youth and technology using social media,” he said. The seminar was aimed at facilitating BJP members to stay in touch with youth in all the constituencies in the state through social media and seek their support for the BJP. The party had already commenced the process of working out a strategy for the upcoming Assembly polls, he said.

Social media is being used extensively by people these days, Dr Tamilisai said. “BJP has also decided to use social media to equip our party members to stay in direct touch with the people and disseminate information on the good governance of our PM Narendra Modi,” she said. She ruled out an electoral alliance with the ruling AIADMK.
