Bengaluru: New Zealand’s Sophie Devine slammed the fastest fifty in T20s to thump India women by eight wickets in the first T20I of the three-match T20I series here, on Saturday. Chasing a modest 126 setup by the hosts, New Zealand sprinted to the target in just 12.3 overs at at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Hard-hitting opener Devine’s power-packed 22-ball 70 was studded with five boundaries and eight sixes. Earlier, sent to bat first, the India eves were off to a brilliant start with Mithali Raj making a brisk 35 off 23 balls. But Morna Nielsen (3/30) struck in the fifth over to get rid of Vellaswamy Vanitha leg-before to trigger a collapse.
