CM Oommen Chandy wants Modi to rein in Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi

He urged the Prime Minister to ensure that AG does not appear in Supreme Court

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister on Saturday shot off a letter to Prime Minister expressing his displeasure over Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi representing bar owners in Supreme Court.

He urged the Prime Minister to ensure that AG does not appear in Supreme Court when the case comes up again on July 28.

The chief minister said AG's explanation that he had appeared in the SC after seeking Government's permission had startled all people who have sense of justice. “This is a grave matter and Prime Minister should make his position clear in public on the issue,” he added.

However, Mr Rohatgi got the backing of Law Minister Sadananda Gowda, who said there was noting amiss in the AG taking up the case because the Centre was not a party. He did not see any conflict of interest.

Mr Rohatgi wondered why should Mr Chandy be unnecessarily worried about my accepting the brief of the bar owners.
