Telangana unlikely to meet Supreme Court admissions deadline

JNTU-Hyderabad filed an appeal against the single judge order on Wednesday
Hyderabad: There are only about two to three days before the Telangana State Eamcet counselling has to begin so classes can start on August 1, according to Supreme Court guidelines.
Sources said that JNTU-Hyderabad decided to appeal against the singe judge order on the insistence of the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. But with this, the Telangana State Council of Higher Education is concerned if it will be able to complete the counselling process on time.
The JNTU-H filed an appeal against the single judge order on Wednesday but was directed by the court to file separate appeals for all the respondent colleges. Before the Tuesday decision to file the appeal, the TSCHE had issued the counselling schedule only to retract it later. According to the now invalid schedule, even if counselling had begun on Wednesday, July 8, it would have ended only by July 28 just about three days before the Supreme Court deadline.
“If the High Court gives a stay order or just dismisses the JNTU petition, there will be no problem at all and we can immediately go ahead with the counselling. But if the case hearing is prolonged then it will mean big trouble. It is unlikely we will get an immediate judgement,” a senior official of the TS education ministry said.
