Financier filed suit to defame me, extort money: Rajinikanth

Actor informed Madras HC that a suit filed against him was intended to defame him

Chennai: Contending that he is neither a borrower nor a guarantor, actor Rajinikanth has informed Madras high court that a suit filed by film financier S. Mukanchand Bothra was intended to defame him, besides to extort money from him. Hence, the suit should be rejected with exemplary costs. Rajinikanth stated this in his affidavit filed in response to the suit filed by Bothra, which sought a directive to Rajinikanth to take action against his daughter’s father-in-law Kasthuri Raja for allegedly misusing his name to avail loan from him.

Justice K. Ravichandra Baabu before whom the affidavit was filed, posted the matter for further hearing after four weeks. In his affidavit, Rajinikanth submitted that if at all Kasthuri Raja had used his name, Bothra ought to have informed him. Bothra could not be heard to say that he advanced loan because his name was used and hold him liable for such loan. Bothra has falsely stated that his complaint before the Commissioner of Police had been dismissed as though it was matter of civil nature without disclosing the observation that Bothra had not submitted proper evidence.

On verification about the alleged borrowing of '65 lakh by Kasthuri Raja from Bothra, it was learnt that Bothra filed complaints before the IV Metropolitan Magistrate, George Town. Both complaints were dismissed.“I am neither a guarantor nor a borrower for the alleged loan transaction. If Bothra’s contention is really true about his granting loan of '65 lakh to Kasthuri Raja, he should have filed a civil suit for recovery thereof and not otherwise”, Rajinikanth said.
