Bikers create ruckus at night in Hyderabad

Most of the bikers are without license

Hyderabad: Midnights in certain areas in the city have become more lively as Ramzan progresses.

However, teenagers on motorbikes create a menace on roads. Despite repeated warnings from the police, several cases of midnight races are seen in places including Banjara Hills and its outskirts. Several youngsters illegally get into the prohibited ORR with their bikes.

Thirty two of them were arrested two days ago. Cops say many do not listen to their parents or lie to them that they are going for prayers, and go out with their bikes.

The areas like KBR park, Necklace Road, and Hitech city road becomes active close to midnight with youngsters roaring with their high-end bikes.

They get onto the ORR after making sure no patrol vehicles or check posts exist in the vicinity, eye witnesses say.

Most of the bikers are without license. They pay zero attention to the danger while they perform stunts like wheelies and stoppies without any safety measures like head gears.

Since traffic cops are not on duty at night, they have a free run in many areas.

Though the police say these are not organised racing matches, sometimes there are more than 20 bikes at one place doing stunts.

The youngsters come from different parts of the city and get together at one place.

Police say they had controlled the menace for a while, now it has started again. “After we conducted special drives, there were no such cases for the list five to six months. It looks like now it has started again,” said West Zone DCP A.Venkateswara Rao. Hussain Sagar Lake police and West Zone police officials said that they will re-launch the special drive to catch underage drivers. Officials said that the increasing number of underage drivers involved in road mishaps have become a matter of major concern.

According to statistics of the police, in a five month duration, over 80 youngsters aged between 10 to 20 have met with accidents, and most of them are underage drivers without license.
