SFI march turns violent in Alappuzha

Many activists were left with minor injuries

Alappuzha: SFI activists burned home minister Ramesh Chennithala in effigy in Alappuzha in protest against the police lathicharge on their counterparts in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday.

As police personnel cordoned off the area near SD College preventing the cadres from burning the effigy, the activists turned against the police resulting in stone pelting between both sides. When the situation turned serious, the police fired teargas grenades. Many activists were left with minor injuries.

The SFI activists organised textbook distribution functions at various centres in the district in protest against the delay in the distribution of school textbooks by the education department.

District panchayat president Prathibha Hari inaugurated the book distribution at Muhammadens HSS. English textbook of class XII were distributed at the function in Alappuzha in the morning.

SFI district secretary James Samuel and state committee member Ajmal Hassan attended the programme.
