Dress code for men in Imambaras of Lucknow

‘Men should be made part of it and cover their heads and legs, if uncovered’

Lucknow: After seeking a dress code for women visitors to the Imambaras, the Shia clerics are now demanding a similar dress code for male visitors too. Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawwad said that a dress code similar to the one applicable at the Golden Temple in Amritsar and the Jama Masjid in Delhi should be made applicable at the Imambaras too.

“Men should be made part of it and cover their heads and legs, if uncovered, before entering the monuments which have a religious sanctity for us. We have seen tourists wearing half pants visiting the monument, which is not acceptable,” he said.

Last week, the Shia cleric had made it mandatory for women visitors to cover their heads while visiting the monument. The Maulana said that the Akhilesh government was not paying heed to their demands.
