Accused assaults eight-year-old girl

Coimbatore: An elderly man sexually abused a class four girl, who came to buy provisions in his petty shop in Saravanampatty on Saturday night. The accused K. Kamalan, 65 was arrested by police from the all women's police station (East).
The police said the victim, aged eight, had gone to buy some provisions, but K. Kamalan had lured the girl with an offer to give free chocolates and took her into his house and sexually abused her.
He had then threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone. However, a shocked girl had returned home and narrated her ordeal. The girl’s mother, who also runs a small eatery in the same neighbourhood of Cheran Maa Nagar, had immediately lodged a complaint with the all women’s police station (East).
Following an investigation, the AWPS (East) police registered a case against the elderly man under IPC sections 7 read with 8 (sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) and 506 (i) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. The accused was arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
