Murali ran for his life as the gang chased him

Chennai: A 35-year-old history-sheeter and a functionary of Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) was chased and hacked to death in broad daylight in Madhavaram on Monday morning.

J. Murali alias ‘Pothys’ Murali was in-charge of the Madhavaram unit of the BSP and was a history-sheeter, police said. He was at his house in Thiruvallur Street, Madhavaram when a gang knocked on his doors.

Murali and the gang entered into an argument and in no time the verbal duel escalated into a brawl, police said. Murali ran for his life as the gang wielding sickles and deadly weapons chased him and hacked him, leaving him in a pool of blood and fled the scene.

Police team secured Murali and moved him to the Government Stanley hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Police said that the victim is an accused in several murder and attempt to murder cases in the area. He got his moniker, ‘Pothys’ after he was accused in the waylaying of a cashier of the garment store, Pothys in 2012. Special teams have been formed to trace the persons behind the murder.
