People being misguided on Pranahita-Chevella, says KCR
Adilabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday attacked critics for “misguiding people” on changing the site of the Pranahita-Chevella project to Kaleswaram. He was speaking after inaugurating the Gudem lift irrigation project.
The Chief Minister asked how water could be taken to Chevella from Pranahitha which was 600 km away. He said the previous design of the project and was meant to earn commissions.
Mr Chandrasekhar Rao said the new design of the project would provide irrigation water to 1.5 lakh acres, as against 50,000 acres in the previous design, in Adilabad.
He said Adilabad had the highest rainfall in Telangana at 1,200 mm but the district was facing drought due to degradation of forests and indiscriminate felling of trees. Mr Chandrasekhar Rao appealed to improve green cover and bring past the glory to the district.
Ministers Jogu Ramanna, Harish Rao, Indrakaran Reddy, MLAs K. Lakshmi, Diwakar, N. Odelu, TRS leaders S. Venugopala Chary, ZP chairperson Shobarani were present.
