Sarpanches told to do their bit in saving trees

KCR asks local bodies to promote greenery
Karimnagar: Attributing poor growth of rural parts of state to failure of Panchayat Raj system, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said that Sarpanches were heroes of villages and advised them to focus on the development rather than visiting a nearby town.
Speaking at a public meeting held at Husnabad town after participating in the Telanganaku Harita Haaram (THH) programme at various places in Husnabad Assembly constituency, on Saturday Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao asked heads of villages including members of Mandal Parishad Parishads, village revenue officers and single window chairmen and members of Zilla Praja Parishad to protect the saplings being planted under the ambitious programme.
Mr Rao advisied the sarpanches to identify open spaces and take steps to plant saplings and ensure that they are protected. “If a single sapling out of 40,000 supplied to each village planted is not protected, both the Sarpanch and MPTC should resign from their posts,” he warned.
Earlier, Mr Rao planted a tree on the premises of Yellamma temple before beginning his speech. State ministers and MLAs from the district were present.
