'No chance of Parliament passing land bill in monsoon session'

PMK on Sunday asked the Narendra Modi-led government to withdraw the bill

Chennai: Holding that there was "no chance" of Parliament passing the Centre's controversial Land Acquisition Bill in its coming monsoon session, NDA constituent PMK on Sunday asked the Narendra Modi-led government to withdraw the bill.

A meeting of PMK's Executive at Thailapuram in Villupuram district under party founder S Ramadoss passed a resolution to this effect. It also said that the Modi government was 'adamant' in passing the land bill.

"But there is no chance of passing this bill in the coming Parliament session (starting on July 21). The ordinance will lapse before conclusion of the session. After that, the Centre should not resort to issuing ordinance," it said while urging the government to withdraw the bill.

The party also lauded Ramadoss for 'creating awareness' on this issue. Among others, it slammed the AIADMK for 'corruption' in the state, besides lauding Karnataka for filing an appeal in the Supreme Court against acquittal of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in a wealth case by the Karnataka High Court.
