CBSE to issue fresh JEE Mains rank list

Revised list for 2nd phase counselling

Hyderabad: Fractional ranks were released on Saturday for the JEE Main for Telangana students whose Intermediate marks had not reached the Central Board of Secondary Education due to bungling by the TS Board of Intermediate Education.

The students can fill in their choices of colleges by Sunday. Students had difficulty filling in choices on Saturday as the JoSAA servers remained offline for several hours. The counselling portal was only restored late in the evening.

In a surprise announcement, the CBSE said it would release a revised rank list on July 8. The CBSE stated, “The Board has decided to issue a revised list on July 8 to safeguard the interests of students and as requested by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority for admissions now.”

JoSAA sources informed that the first round of seat allocation, which would conclude on July 7, would be based on the ranks that have been announced, including the fractional ranks to some TS students.

The second and subsequent rounds of seat allotments, scheduled from July 13, will be on the basis of the revised rank list announced by the CBSE on July 8 and not the one released on July 1.

The ranks in the revised list could be change drastically since it would be calculated including all the 1,188 TS students and missed students from other boards.

While blaming the Telangana board for creating this situation at the time of joint counselling for admissions, the CBSE said that the state had updated information as late as July 3 and this was despite several reminders to the state boards.

The CBSE said that last year the ranks were announced on July 8 and this year, notwithstanding the delay, the JEE ranks were announced well in advance.
