Argument at polling booth leads to Bhuma Nagi Reddy’s arrest

Mr Nagi Reddy was detained and shifted to the III-Town police station
Anantapur: A tense situation prevailed for some time on Friday after police arrested YSR Congress MLA Bhuma Nagi Reddy for his alleged high-handedness with sub-divisional police officer K. Devadanam at a polling station in Nandyal in Kurnool district.
Police booked the MLA under Sections 353 and 506. A SC, ST Atrocity case was also registered against him, based on a complaint filed by the police personnel.
The incident took place after first-time MLA Bhuma Akhila Priya, and Mr Nagi Reddy, her father, entered into a heated argument with the DSP of Nandyal after he told Ms Akhila, who was waiting for her father, to leave the polling station.
Visibly miffed at his daughter being told to leave the polling booth, Mr Nagi Reddy objected to the DSP’s actions. Soon enough, a heated argument took place. The other police personnel on duty managed to placate the MLA and get him to leave the place.
However, Nandyal police registered a case against Mr Nagi Reddy, on charges of disrupting the cops from carrying out their duty, and rash behaviour with the personnel. DSP Devadanam said that the MLA’s actions were aggressive.
Mr Nagi Reddy was detained and shifted to the III-Town police station. This sparked off an impromptu protest by YSRC activists who accused the police of acting on the directions of Telugu Desam leaders who feared defeat in the MLC polls.
Meanwhile, Ms Akhila Priya said she had not say a single word to the cops on duty or other voters. “I was just waiting for my dad at the polling station. We are contemplating of taking suitable action against the cops for their high-handedness towards elected representatives,” she said. Additional forces have been posted at Nandyal following the tense situation as huge number of YSRC activists gathered at Mr Nagi Reddy’s residence.
