Two duped of Rs 80 thousand over call

Fraudsters asked card information for its renewal
Hyderabad: Unknown persons called some people and introduced themselves as officials from SBI, New Delhi and asked them for details about their debit cards and PIN numbers.
The victims gave them the details. Soon, Rs 45,000 went missing from the account of one Malishetty Chandrashekar, while Rs 34,334 was taken from K. Muralidhar’s account. Police said Malishetty Chandrashekar owns a tent house and has a current account with the SBI in Nagarkurnool.
Muralidhar is a farmer and has a SB at the SBH branch in Nagarkurnool. Both are residents of Nagarkurnool.
On July 1 at around 5.30 pm, an unknown caller, called Shekar introduced himself as an official from SBI, New Delhi. He told Shekar that his debit card should be renewed and it was the last day for it. In a similar way, he also trapped Muralidhar.
“The caller asked them for their debit card numbers and the secret pin number. He later asked them to check an SMS they received on their mobile and took details. Later, he instructed them to delete the SMS,” said the Nagarkurnool sub-inspector Guru.
Suspecting the caller, Shekar immediately rushed to a nearby ATM and found that Rs 45,000 was debited from his account. During the enquiry, police found that Shekar’s account was debited for shopping at a mall in Mumbai, while Muralidhar’s account was used for shopping at Gurgaon. Based on a complaint the police registered a case for cheating and launched a hunt to nab the culprits.
