Why did Rajinikanth turn down Drishyam remake?

Actor was apprehensive about a few scenes and feared about not going down well with his fans

When Suresh Balajie bought the remake rights of M’town blockbuster Drishyam, the filmmaker’s first choice to reprise Mohanlal’s role was none other than Rajinikanth. It is believed Rajini watched the film at a private screening along with director Jeethu Joseph and Suresh and was all praise for the film.

Though he was interested to take up the role, he was apprehensive about a few scenes and feared it may not go down well with his fans. “Rajinikanth sir really liked the story of Drishyam. But Rajini sir had issues with two scenes and whether they would appeal to his fans,” a source informs.

The first scene is when the main characters get brutally beaten up by the police. And, the second scene is the climax portion. Rajini was doubtful if his fans would like seeing him getting beaten up. Reportedly, Jeethu too felt the same when it was discussed with him.

However, since Rajini showed interest working with him, Jeethu promised that he would return with a new script. Though Vikram was also in the fray for the remake, it was Kamal Haasan, who stepped in first.Drishyam remake in Tamil Papanasam released on Friday and has been receiving critical acclaim for Kamal’s prolific acting.
