Kannur University syndicate scraps move to start law college in Kasargod

The committee could not meet because there was no quorum
Kannur: Kannur University Syndicate subcommittee rejected the proposal to start a law college at Kasargod at a meeting held on Tuesday. The proposal received flak from many quarters as the Syndicate committee had already rejected the proposal four years back citing financial liabilities.
It is learnt that though the vice chancellor called the subcommittee meeting three times before, the committee could not meet because there was no quorum.
The Kannur University Employees’ Union also came up against the move, demanding immediate scrapping of the proposal which would cause additional financial expenses for the cash strapped varsity. “The move was again initiated by the authorities after the VC bowed to pressure from some quarters. The proposal for the law college was first submitted by IUML leader Cherkkalam Abdulla,” said KUEU President Vijayan Adukkadan.
He alleged that the Muslim League was exerting pressure on the University to sanction more courses in the Colleges that are owned by them.”
