Hyderabad police drag away school protesters

The signatures were taken forcefully complained principal
Hyderabad: A day after an SHRC petition was filed regarding demolition of the Alpha Slum School in Jubilee Hills, police tried to forcefully evict students and parents who had gathered at the site of the demolished school, the school management alleged.
Reportedly, the police tried to drag parents from the site where they were protesting and also threatened the school management of further action if they didn’t stop the protests and illegal functioning of the school.
The young students were also boarded into a van by the police who wanted to take the kids to the Borabanda government school. Officials arrived at the school early on Wednesday morning. Defending their action, they said that they had informed the management by serving a notice in March. However, there was no intimation about the date.
Founder and principal of the school, Ms Shoba Rani, alleged that the notices were being sent to them on behest of Jubilee Hills MLA Mangati Gopinath. “The signatures were taken forcefully from us,” she said.
Following the action taken by the police and the district administration to stop the children, parents and teachers from protesting, members of the Child Rights Commission visited the site and intervened.
Member of the state Child Rights Commission, Mr Achyuta Rao, visited Alfa School and assured that they would pressurise the authorities to initiate action against the police. “We have asked for free transport for the kids till the new building is ready. The Commission has also noted that there was no qualified teacher or system of learning at the school and has asked the government to appoint teachers on contract basis,” Mr Rao said.
