Royal challenge ahead for Vijay Mallya, RCB to get new owner?

The JSW group – who also own Bengaluru FC – keen to buy the IPL franchise

Mumbai: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the glamorous Indian Premier League outfit, is likely to have a new owner, thus ending the seven-year reign of business tycoon Vijay Mallya.

According to a report in NDTV, JSW – owned by billionaire Sajjan Jindal – may take over the franchise.

It has been learnt that JSW officials have been making proposals for the last few months but could not convince Mallya.

Mallya could be a cricket lover and hence, doesn’t want to part ways with his ward (the franchise) but Diageo – another stakeholder – isn’t keen on continuing with the team.

The JSW group also owns Bengaluru FC – the I-League football club.

However, RCB – led by star India cricketer Virat Kohli – are two-time finalists and boasts of popular figures such as Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers. Due to their fame on and off the pitch, they are bound to generate profits for any business house.
